Overview

Discover the best of Auckland and the historic Bay of Islands with this great value two-tour combo.

Day 1 – Auckland City Sights Morning Tour

Spend a morning discovering some of Auckland’s most scenic highlights, from city streets to harbour vistas, the Auckland Harbour Bridge, pass through the Viaduct Harbour and visit bustling Queen Street on your way to the Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. After visiting the Domain, which has expansive green spaces, formal gardens, and native bush, the tour continues to Parnell Village for a short morning tea stop (at your own expense). The Auckland Museum visit is optional.

Your Next stop is:

Perry Kauri Park in Warkworth

The Warkworth and District Museum is located in the beautiful Parry Kauri Park. Stroll along one of the well-made boardwalks, through the native bush, to the lookout and kauri tree grove. Pick up a brochure from the Museum souvenir shop that describes and identifies the native trees and shrubs found along the path.

In the early years of European settlement, Parry Kauri Park was part of the property owned by Rev McKinney, the first minister of the Presbyterian Church in Warkworth and the Mahurangi. The land was later purchased by the Simpson family, who requested that the trees and bush be offered for purchase as a public amenity on the sale of their land.

The two large kauri trees are named in honour of these former landowners. The park and the driveway into it bear the names of Harry Parry and Tudor Collins, local identities who were primarily responsible, along with the Kauri Bushmen’s Association.

Night stay in Paihia

Day 2 – Bay of Islands Dolphin Cruise

In Paihia, you’ll board the Dolphin Seeker, our purpose-built catamaran licensed by the Department of Conservation for dolphin and whale viewing. Enjoy the large outdoor viewing decks as we cruise past the islands of the Bay. Look out for common and bottlenose dolphins, whales and other marine life as our experienced local skippers get you close to the action before arriving at the majestic Hole in the Rock and cruising past the Cape Brett Lighthouse. If conditions permit, your skipper will navigate right through the narrow space before heading back into the inner islands of the Bay.

Guided tour of the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the Maori and the British Crown. Explore the original Treaty House, one of New Zealand’s oldest and most visited historic homes and the Te Whare Runanga. This fully carved Maori meeting house represents all iwi (regional tribes) in New Zealand.

Back to your Auckland Hotel once you finish your tours on the same day.
