Travel south through lush green farmlands and plains to Matamata, the home of the Hobbits! Then on to the rest of the shire! Your journey begins at the original Hobbiton Village from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Drive through a picturesque 1250-acre working farm with 12,000 sheep and 200 beef cattle on site! Then, enjoy the spectacular views across the Kamai Ranges.
Your enthusiastic local tour guide will escort you through the set, recounting fascinating details on how the Hobbiton set was created, sharing stories from the filming, and recalling different parts of the movies.

Experience in the Hobbiton Movie Set
Experience the real Middle-earth with a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set, the setting for The Shire featured in the Peter Jackson-directed film, “The Lord of the Rings”. Your tour starts with a drive through the picturesque 1,250-acre sheep farm with spectacular views across the Kaimai Ranges. Next, your guide will escort you through the ten-acre site, recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton set was created. The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, Mill, and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed, and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into “The Shire from Middle-earth”. At the end of the tour, you have time for pictures and dress up in clothes from Middle-earth, along with a taste of home-brewed ginger beer (non-alcoholic) at the Green Dragon.
After a great day, we return to the hotel accommodation in Auckland
